We have been notified that someone has been sending emails falsely representing the City of Union in an attempt to sell life insurance. The City of Union does not offer life insurance services. If you have received one of these emails, please report and delete as spam.
The City of Union recently discovered that an employee in the City’s planning and zoning department engaged in theft of public funds over a period of several months. The City immediately referred this matter to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division. SLED is now actively investigating the matter. The City is fully cooperating with SLED and will continue to do so throughout their investigation. The employee responsible for this misappropriation of funds is no longer employed by the City.
The City of Union takes its obligation as a steward of public funds seriously and is committed to accountability and transparency. This misappropriation of funds was discovered through internal financial controls that are intended to quickly identify theft. Although the City’s internal controls worked as intended in this case, the City will further review these internal financial controls and will implement any additional safeguards that it may determine are necessary to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

We have been made aware of text messages that are being circulated among our customers stating there is a gas leak in their area and for them to evacuate their homes. Please be advised the City of Union has not sent out any text messages regarding this and we have not been made aware of any potential threats within the City of Union natural gas lines.
