This position involves laboratory, technical, maintenance, and groundskeeping work in the operation of a biological wastewater treatment facility. Applicants must be able to perform a variety of tasks and be willing to work in a team environment.  Must be able to obtain an “A” biological wastewater treatment license within the required time frame which will be dependent on current certification level.

 Preferred requirements include a high school diploma with vocational/ technical training in the field of wastewater treatment operations, or any equivalent combination of education and training. Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license (CDL preferred).

Public Safety Officers are expected to perform specialized firefighting work which may involve driving fire pumpers and ladder trucks and operating firefighting apparatus Engages directly in fire prevention and firefighting activities to protect and safeguard lives and property.  Work involves an element of personal danger.

The City of Union currently has vacancies for the position of Police Officer in the Public Safety Department.  The Police Officer enforces state and local laws. Patrols assigned beat or neighborhood and Police officers patrol a designated area of the city. Enforce traffic laws, direct traffic, take charge of traffic accidents, assist motorists, pedestrians and the injured in accidents. Respond to emergency calls and make arrests as necessary. Prepare and submit reports regarding complaints pertaining to larceny, stolen property, shoplifting, assault and battery, robbery, etc. Investigate reports of suspicious people and vehicles as assigned. Serve arrest and bench warrants to the public as necessary. Testify in court regarding traffic and criminal cases.

Job Opportunity

The City of Union is currently seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator.  Under general supervision, operates the water treatment plant, monitoring water daily in order to ensure safe, clean water for public use.  Operates electrical and mechanical process equipment; performs electrical and mechanical repair and maintenance duties.   Also performs general plant cleaning, painting, ground maintenance, and other related duties as required.

 Position requires a high school diploma, a valid minimum “D” SC Water Treatment Certification, and two years’ experience in operating a water filtration plant; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must obtain a “C” SC Water Treatment Certification within one (1) year of employment. A SC Water Treatment “C” or greater certification is preferred.  Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Subject to pre-employment physical, DOT drug screens and all other applicable background checks.

 The City of Union Water Treatment Plant operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The operator position works an eight-hour day, forty-hour work week.

The successful candidate will respond to work tickets and locate requests, travel to sites, read maps, locate the depth and length of lines, mark locations, take photos, update maps and computer databases, and maintain related documentation.

A high school diploma or GED required and three years of experience in utility construction and maintenance, meter services is preferred or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  Must have a valid S.C. driver’s license.
