
Natural gas is an abundant resource across the United States, and new discoveries and extraction methods have led to a dramatic rise in shale gas development -- making America the world’s leading natural gas producer. Natural gas is the cleanest burning and most environmentally friendly of the fossil fuels. This clean natural resource is a more cost effective way to fuel your appliances. As a general rule, natural gas equipment lasts longer than electric and is easier to maintain and repair. The division provides for the operations, construction and maintenance of the City's Gas Distribution System. Service provided to approximately 6,500 customers located in Union and Spartanburg counties. Gas is purchased from Transcontinental Gas Pipeline Corporation. The system is comprised of approximately 428 miles of distribution piping.
Our Gas Division consists of eleven (11) employees: a Construction and Maintenance Supervisor, an Assistant C/M Supervisor, six (6) Heavy Equipment Operators, one Welder, two (2) Measurement and Control Technicians.
