     ♦  Firefighter

The City of Union has a vacancy for the position of Firefighter in the Public Safety Department.  Under general supervision, performs specialized firefighting work which involves driving fire pumpers and ladder trucks and operating firefighting apparatus.  Engages directly in fire prevention and firefighting activities to protect and safeguard lives and property.  Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of firefighting activities.  Performs other related duties as required.  Applicants must be of good moral character, responsible, dependable and must be 18 years of age.  Some pre-employment testing required.
 
Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.   Must possess or be able to obtain certification from the S.C. Fire Academy, Fire Fighter II.  Must posses a valid South Carolina Driver’s License with good driving record.

Salary Range:        $36,581 - $43,915

     ♦  Water Treatment Plant Operator

The City of Union currently has a vacancy for a Water Treatment Plant Operator.  Under general supervision, operates the water treatment plant, monitoring water daily in order to ensure safe, clean water for public use.  Operates electrical and mechanical process equipment; performs electrical and mechanical repair and maintenance duties.   Also performs general plant cleaning, painting, ground maintenance, and other related duties as required.
 
Position requires a high school diploma, a valid minimum “D” SC Water Treatment Certification, and two years’ experience in operating a water filtration plant; or any equivalent combination of training and experience. Must obtain a “C” SC Water Treatment Certification within one (1) year of employment. A SC Water Treatment “C” or greater certification is preferred.  Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Subject to pre-employment physical, DOT drug screens and all other applicable background checks.
 
The City of Union Water Treatment Plant operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  The operator position works an eight-hour day, forty-hour work week.

      ♦  Electric Lineman II

The City of Union has a vacancy for the position of Electric Lineman II in the Electrical Division.  This position performs skilled work in all phases of overhead and underground electrical service for the City system.  This position requires some technical skills or prior knowledge of electrical work.  Must have valid S.C. Driver’s License (CDL preferred).  

Requires a high school diploma and three to five years’ experience as an Electrical Lineman I; or any equivalent combination of training and experience.  Successful completion of hot line and bucket school.

      ♦  Municipal Judge

 
The City of Union is presently accepting applicants for the position of Municipal Judge.  This position requires extensive knowledge of court procedures, laws, regulations and other pertinent information to the professional operation of Municipal Court.

Statement of Duties:

The Municipal Judge presides over the Union Municipal Court and is vested with all powers and duties prescribed for such position by the Code of Laws of the laws of the State of South Carolina (S.C.Code Ann. § 14-25-25) and the Union Code of Ordinances.

Desirable Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:

Must have the ability to deal tactfully, skillfully and fairly with officials, attorneys, complainants, prisoners and other related matters to the operation of Municipal Court.  Must have courtroom experience and good organization skill.  Must be able to complete the training program and if not an attorney pass the certification examination within one year of taking office and recertification examination every eight years thereafter.  An application may be downloaded @ www.cityofunion.net, under Personnel Division.  Anyone interested in applying should contact the City of Union Personnel Office at 101 Sharpe Avenue or mail application/resume to City of Union Human Resource Department, P.O.
